İstanbul’daki misyoner hastanelerinden Geremia (Jeremia) Hastanesi ve mimarisi

Abstract

19. yüzyılda Osmanlı toplum hayatının hemen her alanında görülen siyasi, sosyal ve kültürel gelişmeler, sanat ve mimaride de kendini göstermiştir. “Batılılaşma” olarak adlandırılan gelişim sürecinin mimaride yarattığı bu değişimler, toplum hayatına yeni ihtiyaçlar, yeni yapı türleri ve kurumlar kazandırmıştır. Tanzimat Devri?nde, yabancılara ve gayri müslimlere mülk edinme ve cemaatleri için kamusal nitelikli yapılar yaptırmalarına izin verilmesi sonucunda, Karaköy ve özellikle Beyoğlu bölgelerinde, kilise, okul, hastane, postane, pansiyon, otel, kafe, tiyatro, pasaj, mağaza ve pastane gibi binalar inşa edilmiştir. Böylece batılı bir kent görünümü kazanan İstanbul?da ağırlıklı olan dini mimari yerini giderek sivil mimariye bırakmaya başlar. Bu uygun ortamda, Amerika ve Fransa gibi ülkelerin misyoner tarikatları özellikle okul ve hastane gibi yapılar inşa ederler. Bu çalışmada XIX. yüzyıl İstanbul?unda misyoner tarikatların kurmuş olduğu hastanelerin bir örneği olan Geremia Hastanesi?nin tarihi, belgelerle değerlendirilmiş ve yapının mimarisinin özellikleri ile yapıda günümüze kadar meydana gelen değişiklikler üzerinde durulmuştur.The political, social and cultural developments seen in almost all areas of Ottoman society in the 19th century also manifested themselves in art and architecture. These changes in architecture created by the development process called „Westernization? have brought new needs, new types of structures and institutions to social life. In the Tanzimat Era, as a result of allowing the foreigners and nonMuslims to acquire properties and building public structures for their communities, such as churches, schools, hospitals, post offices, pensions, hotels, cafes, theaters, arcades, shops and patisseries, in Karaköy and especially in Beyoğlu regions. The buildings were built. Thus, the religious architecture, which is predominantly in Istanbul, gained a western appearance and gradually began to give way to civilian architecture. In this favorable environment, missionary sects of countries such as America and France build structures such as schools and hospitals. In this study, the history of Geremia Hospital, which is an example of the hospitals established by missionary sects in Istanbul in the XIX. century, has been evaluated with documents and the features of the structure and the changes that have occurred in the structure up to the present day have been emphasized.
