Üniversite öğrencilerinde algılanan helikopter anne tutumunun benlik saygısı ve problemlere karşı olumsuz tutuma etkisinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada İstanbul’da öğrenimini sürdürmekte olan üniversite öğrencilerinde algılanan helikopter anne tutumunun benlik saygısı ve problemlere karşı tutumlarına etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmanın evrenini İstanbul’daki vakıf üniversitesine kayıtlı öğrenciler oluşturmuştur. Araştırma, 318 öğrenci ile yüz yüze ve internet ortamında anket yoluyla veri toplanarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri, Sosyo-Demografik Bilgi Formu, Algılanan Helikopter Ebeveyn Tutum Ölçeği (AHETÖ), Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği (RBSÖ) ve Problemlere Karşı Olumsuz Tutum Ölçeği (POTÖ) kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizi için bağımsız örneklem t testi ve korelasyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmanın bulguları incelendiğinde; 1) Üniversite öğrencilerinin aile içinde en fazla anneye bağlı olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. 2) Bu doğrultuda kadın öğrencilerde helikopter anne tutumunun erkek öğrencilere göre daha düşük olduğu bulunmuştur. 3) Kadın öğrencilerin benlik saygısının erkek öğrencilere oranla daha yüksek olduğu ve problemlere karşı olumsuz tutumun daha düşük olduğu görülmüştür. 4) Helikopter anne tutumu arttıkça problemlere karşı olumsuz tutumun arttığı ve bireydeki benlik saygısının azaldığı bulunmuştur. 5) Benlik saygısı düşük olan bireylerin problemlere karşı daha olumsuz bir tutum sergilediği bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. 6) Ailenin aylık geliri ile diğer değişkenler arasında ilişki bulunamamıştır (p<0,05). Sonuç: Araştırma sonuçlarında aile içinde en çok anneye bağlı olunmasının onların çocuğun bakımı ve gelişimi ile birebir ilgilenmesinden dolayı daha fazla helikopter tutuma sahip olması ile ilişkili olabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu noktada annenin helikopter tutumunun öğrencilerin benlik saygısı ve problemlere karşı tutumunun gelişimleri üzerinde önemli bir etki yarattığı görülmektedir. Helikopter anne tutumunun artması, benlik saygısı ve problemlere karşı tutumu olumsuz etkilemektedir. Araştırma sonuçları, benzer bulgulara sahip diğer araştırmalar ile tartışılmış ve öneriler sunulmuştur.Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of helicopter mother’s attitude on self-esteem and problem orientation among university students in Istanbul. Material and Methods: The universe of this study included students enrolled at the foundation university in Istanbul. The research was conducted face to face with 318 students, and data were collected using a Sociodemographic Information Form, Helicopter Parent Attitude Scale (HPAS), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Negative Problem Orientation Questionnaire (NPOQ). For data analysis, the independent sample t test and correlation analysis were applied. Results: When the study findings were examined; 1) University students were found to be most dependent on the mothers in the family. (2) In this direction, it was found that the helicopter mother’s attitudes in female students were lower than male students. (3) Female students had higher self-esteem than male students, but the negative problem orientation was lower. (4) As the attitude of the helicopter mother increased, the negative problem orientation increased and the self-esteem in the individual decreased. (5) Moreover, individuals with low self-esteem have a more negative problem orientation. (6) No relation was found between the monthly income of the family and other variables (p<0,05). Conclusion: In the research results, it is thought that being attached to the mother in the family may be related to having more helicopter attitude because they are directly related to the care and development of the child. At this point, it is seen that the mother’s helicopter attitude has a significant effect on the self-esteem of the students and the development of their attitude toward the problems. Increasing the helicopter mother’s attitude negatively affects the self-esteem and problem orientation. The study results are discussed with respect to other studies with similar findings, and suggestions are presented.
